HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray
It looks like the war is still going on between these two new HD formats. Eventually one of them will become the new HD standard, which could possibly be Blu-Ray. Just recently, after Warner Bros. announced they would be releasing their HD titles exclusively on Blu-Ray, HD-DVD sales plummeted. Blu-Ray players accounted for 90 percent of total unit sales in the second week of January. Below are some numbers from a market research firm called NPD Group.
Week 1/5 (before Warner Bros. announcement)
Blu-ray Disc - 15,257 units
HD-DVD - 14,558 units
Week 1/12 (after Warner Bros. announcement)
Blu-ray Disc - 21,770 units
HD-DVD - 1,758 units
These statistics do not contain game consoles, such as Xbox 360 or PS3.
Last Christmas ('06), I decided to purchase the Xbox 360 HD-DVD external drive. It's a great addition to my set-up, but if Blu-Ray wins, I'm glad I didn't invest a lot of money in the HD-DVD format. Feel free to share your thoughts.

I heard from a friend at work that they may be releasing a dual format player. I dunno if its just a rumour... but hes heavy into home theatre and audio. So maybe it wont matter if your rich like deathmaster.

HD-DVD/Blu-Ray combo players do exist. Although they aren't cheap, these players will really start to sell if the format war doesn't end soon. Right now, you can pick one up at your local Futureshop for $799.99 and $899.99 CAD. A link is provided below.

Yeah. It's way more advanced. I think it appeals to people more because it is sort of a "change".
